About Paula:

Hello and a very warm welcome to counselling at The Bodywork Centre in Hexham.

I began my training in Gestalt Humanistic counselling at The northern Guild for Psychotherapy, Newcastle in 1994. My initial counsellling work was provided by GP practices in the Harrogate and Selby area.

In 1998 I became employed by Leeds Community Mental Health Services as a full time specialist counsellor within secondary care. My speciality was working with adult survivors of childhood abuse. Due to this I was also very much involved with Child Protection services across the city. My main supervisory roles were with Primary Care Mental Health Workers and Psychology students.

In 2006 Northumberland beckoned and I bought The Bodywork Centre. I now prefer to think of myself as an integrative therapist .using Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, some CBT and lately training in EMDR. For me this means that the more tools I have in my skills box the better able I am to meet the unique needs of each client.

I do both short term focussed counselling or longer term Psychotherapeutic Counselling. The length of time needed is usually worked out at the initial assessment. All sessions are 50 minutes and as much as possible held at the same time each week.

A free half hour chat might help you decide if counselling is for you. Just give me a ring. (If Im not available I will return your call a.s.a.p. All calls taken at the centre are completely confidential.)
